Jurien Bay is 220 km north of Perth and 195 km south of Geraldton. The town of Jurien Bay is surrounded by many national parks and reserves. Jurien Bay has many facilities including a community resource centre, supermarket, police station, family resource and child daycare centre, sporting facilities, recreational jetty, restaurants, small boat harbour and marina, sealed and lit airstrip and a medical centre. Jurien Bay is located in the Shire of Dandaragan and is the largest community in the shire. The permanent population is approximately 1900 and it is a popular tourist destination.
Jurien Bay District High School is part of the Mid West Education Region and caters for students from Jurien Bay, Leeman, Green Head, Cervantes, Badgingarra and the surrounding farming districts.
The Year 9 Aspire Camp was held during week 8 of term 4. One hundred and sixty students from 30 midwest, north-west and Kimberley schools came together at the University of Western Australia for the week. The students and staff were accommodated at University Hall. During the week students learnt how to be a university student, taking part in many activities at different faculties on campus – languages, sport, science, commerce, mathematics and engineering. The week was extremely successful with Jurien Bay students Lily Clarke, Tiana Wilson, Nevaeh Litherland, Sabella Cook and Ryan Vardy coming back motivated and inspired.
