Help Lines for Young People

Sometimes you just need to talk to someone. If you don't think you can talk to someone close to you, like a teacher, nurse or police officer then there are people who will help. These lines are open for young people who find themselves needing someone to talk to. Most of them are 24 hours coverage and people are waiting for you to talk to them in a totally CONFIDENTIAL way. In most cases they wont even ask you for your name!

Kids help line is a national telephone counselling service for young people between 8 and 15 years of age. They receive over 10 000 calls a week.
 
Family Help Line                                        1800 643 000
Family Help Line is a counselling service for your use when you are having troubles in a relationship within your family. This includes step families as well as traditional family units.

Life line responds to personal life crisis from anyone at anytime.
 
Youthlink - Mental Health Service                 1800 803 356
Provides mental health service for at risk youth aged 12 to 19 years who are experiencing psychological, emotional, social or behavioural problems. Youthlink services include provision of direct clinical assessment and counselling.
 
Youth Line                                                  1800 198 313
This is a non religious 24 hour service that gives you someone to talk to. Most likely they will be your age
 
Alcohol and Drug Information Service             1800 198 024
This is a 24 hour a day 7 day a week, telephone counselling, information, referral and consultancy service. It helps people concerned about their own drug or alcohol related problems as well as families, friends and carers.
 
Sexual Assault Referral Centre                        1800 199 888
This service offers treatment and support for the physical, emotional and social needs of sexual assault victims. They will help whether it is a recent or past experience.
 
Crisis Care                                                    1800 199 008
A family and children's services 24 hour family and domestic violence service. They have information on transport, accommodation and finances.
 
Family Planning Association                             1800 198 205
Deals with sexual health care, sex education, abortion counselling, gynaecological examinations, pap smears, breast examinations, pregnancy counselling. Email address sexhelp@fpwa-health.org.au
 
Bulimia and Anorexia Nervosa Group                 1800 195 575
BANG provides education on the physiological aspects of Bulimia and Anorexia Nervosa.

Liaises with other agencies for the support of young people up to the age of 25.
 
Short Term Accommodation for Youth (STAY)      9921 5696
Located in Geraldton, STAY provides crisis, medium and long term externally supported accommodation for young people 15 to 25 years of age, who are homeless or at risk.
 
Samaritans                                                       1800 198 313
Samaritans provide 24 hour service offering care and support for those who are in despair or suicidal by means of telephone, email or personal contact.
